The Dangers of the Pump Track
Before the summer schedule got going in earnest, we wanted to do something together as a family and so off to the pump track we went. We packed a lunch, threw the bikes into the camp pickup and were on our way.
The pump track is a very lumpy collection of trails and humps and bumps that are paved and available for all to enjoy at Enchantment Park in Leavenworth.
All the boys were very brave and zipped here and there across the hilly ground with aplomb.
There were wild successes …
… and a few painful crashes
But much fun was had by all.
It was a big step up from last year when they were quite cautious and concerned by the pump track and its many opportunities for fabulous crashes and scrapes.
This year they had the hang of it and got The Hunky Hubby in on the fun.
Unfortunately, another boy convinced his mother to ride on the pump track and the boys watched with delight as she screamed and rode through the track full of terror for her life. They then insisted that their own mother should give it a try. For a time, I resisted, knowing my own lack of athletic prowess and the likelihood of seeing myself grievously injured.
But it is very hard to resist three eager boys who are begging you “Please, Momma. You can do it!” and so eventually I capitulated.
Of course I crashed and these lovely bruises are the result. But I did force myself to finish one circuit of the track, even though the crash occurred less than halfway through. Apparently, one must hit the bumps with a bit of speed in order to be safe. I am not at all Ok with speed and could not bring myself to anything resembling a fast pace. But I did feel accomplished and hope that the boys are satisfied with my bravery for the time being. After a day full of experiences we headed home, ready for the busy summer camp schedule to begin.
Looks wonderfully fun. Ouch, with the bruises. You were very brave 🙂
Whoa, I’m so impressed! Your boys will consider these bruises badges of honor. 🙂
How can one resist the encouragement of their children, and refuse when they try new things you encourage them to try! Well done mom! Well done… sorry about the ouchies however, that had to be painful!
They are such delightful boys. It is only because of them that I’ve done scary things like “The Purple Haze” at Slide Waters and those terrifying gunnysack/sled rides. When they are so excited, it is hard to say no and pushes you on to try new things.
I certainly consider them badges of honor! I think that under all of that laughter they were proud. At least I’m telling myself that.
They had fun! And I had a new experience and loved watching them!
