This week I finished exercise #6 in The Writing The Breakout Novel Workbook and part of exercise #7. Character Turnabouts and Surprises was the title of #6 and in this exercise I picked seven spots in my novel and reversed my characters motivations in each of those places. First I brainstormed a bunch of motivations for the action that I had already written and then I picked either the last motivation I came up with or the most interesting one and introduced that motive to my opening paragraph for that character action. A fun exercise that gives you some interesting scenes. Then I got sick for two days this week and was only able to accomplish half of the next exercise, but next week will be healthier and happier for all…I’m pretty sure.
