The Harrowing/Heartwarming Parent Moment of the Week
The boys built a fort over at the camp this week.
Do remember building forts? Well, this one was pretty awesome. Using two couches to make the skeleton for two different rooms they then covered the couches with cushions, pillows, and mattresses from the camp bunk beds. The only entrance involved squeezing through a tiny space between a mattress and a window. Then they wanted to sleep in their fort. Sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, flashlights, an LED candle, and a bunch of good books and they were ready for their adventure. They even took The Hunky Hubby’s cell phone in case they needed rescuing.
Enter the enthusiastic puppy.
Leia did not like the idea that she had not been invited inside the fort, even though she had been asked to sleep on the floor just outside. But the boys couldn’t fit her through the tiny entrance by the window. No problem, she just climbed a chair and launched herself onto the fort’s rickety mattress roof, crashing through onto the boys, twice. She also bulldozered through the walls to get to her boys. I had to take her home with me, since it was obvious that her attempts to be together were not going to stop. The boys inhabited their creation until 6:00am when they gave me a call and Leia and I picked them up and brought the adventurers home.
So…what was your favorite experience with a fort? I think this one is going to be one the boys remember for a long time. Especially the part where Leia fell through the ceiling and they were screaming “Help, help, she’s going to crush me!” or something like that. Did you ever have a pet break into a fort?
