The Hunky Hubby took our three boys out for “Adventure Day” on Saturday. Usually they follow our small seasonal creek up the meadow with sack lunches and get soaking wet. This time they all made boats out of Styrofoam and set out to sail them down the creek. They didn’t get far. The creek was drying up and they saw the pond and it was all over after that. “Adventure Day” turned into “Pond Frolic Day” but they had a blast and that was the goal after all.

Sweet Boy#1 caught a gold fish with his bare hands. They all sailed and lost and found their boats several times. They waded out to the small island and got soaked. Sweet Boy#3 launched Sweet Boy#2’s drain-out shoes onto the water and they blew away across the pond and got stuck in the bushes.

The Hunky Hubby began his attempt to convince Sweet Boy#1 to retrieve the lost shoes but was interrupted by this comment from his oldest.

Sweet Boy#1–“No way! You’re not bribing me.”

But after promising him double fruit snacks in his lunch for a week, seconds on hot apple cider, and a marshmallow…Sweet Boy#1 caved and attempted to walk along a wobbly little branch suspended over the water to retrieve the shoe. It was too much and he gave up the promised treasure trove of sugar for safety. The Hunky Hubby then mounted the wobbly branch…and fell into the murky waters below. But he did get the shoe.

And so “Pond Frolic Day” was a resounding success all around.

What is your favorite childhood adventure? It can either be from your childhood or with your own kiddos, I’d love to hear about it.

  • Too funny! I remember an epic mud fight in that pond… when I think back now on just how murky that water was and what we were throwing at each other… shudder! It’s a wonder we didn’t all come down with something nasty! 😉
