Reading Tai-Bo
This week I read Nevermore by James Patterson and am about to finish The Protector by Dee Henderson.
What did I learn from my reading this week…
Successful authors are experts at something. They shine above and beyond at some aspect of storytelling. Now James Patterson tends to paint the emotions of his characters with broad sweeping strokes. The character journey is not as complex as I prefer it…but he is an expert at fast, kick-butt action. Dee Henderson tends to “tell” what her characters are feeling more than I like…but she is an expert at researching a cool occupation and making the reader feel like they are right there with the U.S. Marshals or firefighters or Forensic Pathologists.
So now I need to find an aspect of storytelling that I love, and then become an expert.
