Reading Tai-Bo
What did I learn from my reading this week? That it is not the language or the difficulty of the classics that make it hard for me to enjoy them. It is the pacing and the content. I am reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin. I absolutely love this book. The language is a bit daunting but the pacing moves along at a good clip, the love story seems completely hopeless and improbable, yet still you are rooting for Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy the whole time, and most importantly this book is hilarious. I feel a little bit better realizing it is not the classics themselves, the marvelous writing that I cannot handle, I just don’t like characters who drown puppies for fun and marry the wrong person and die at the end of the book. I don’t want the pacing to drag and I want to love the characters. Pride and Prejudice delivers everything I want in a book and more. A compelling love story in any
century.
