Writing News
Well, this week I finally got my manuscript to a word count that is within the publisher’s guidelines. Pure Amore titles are supposed to be 40,000 t0 45,000 words in length and I hit the 40,000 word mark. Which is wonderful and also scary. Wonderful, because I am that much closer to being finished after having added those 7,000 words since the rough draft. Scary, because this means that I only have 5,000 measly words to play with as I continue to revise. What if I have some super brilliant plan in the middle of the night that would make the story just perfect, a 6,000 word plan? If I add those 6,000 new words, where will I take out the remaining 1,000 words to make my story fit back within the publisher’s guidelines? You see, this is exactly how writers go crazy. So, I got some good writing in and sent my draft off to my critique partner for here to look at while I recover from kidney stone surgery and attempt to not add too many words while I’m on all this pain medication. Heed my advice, avoid kidney stones at all costs. They are not fun or convenient!
