This week was extraordinary for the fact that it contained two important birthdays. Shinobi (beloved camp counselor and occasional “floor guy”) and our dear doggy Shamu. Shinobi is one of the boys favorites because he likes to play “Bean Bag Monster” and Mario and is in general quite attentive to important conversations about bugs and imaginary cabins and the solar system.
Now usually we make cupcakes for Shamu and light a candle and all. But it was sunny outside and I made them go out and play and then our time ran out. So we decided to combine Shinobi’s birthday cookies with Shamu’s 8thbirthday and just give a cookie to Shamu a day or so late.
So on Saturday we watched cartoons, played outside for four straight hours, came in and I made cut out sugar cookies with three bouncing, pushing, licking, hitting, stirring, whirring, wonderful little boys. It was a big day. And now we have some marvelous angel, boy, and puppy shaped cookies to take to Shinobi at church and to stick a candle in for the dog. A success all around.
Definitely a huge success! I’m quite confident that Shamu was not hurt in the least to have his birthday cookie a day or so late. He probably has the same forgetfulness mentioned earlier that can be so very helpful in many situations.
