Ok, when I started revising with the “Writing the Breakout Novel Workbook” I was hoping to do go through 4 exercises a week and have a brilliant and deep manuscript in two months. But alas I spent all of last week on exercise #4–“Larger Than Life Character Qualities”. I thought my characters were large enough…but it seems they aren’t and the fault that I found was that her decisions did not cost enough. I have gut wrenching decisions that she must make, but then the consequences aren’t as horrible as they should be. And then I realized that she was dating the wrong guy, or rather she was dating the right guy too quickly. So I had to redo the first third of the book and add a different relationship and I am only on about chapter nine. So the week is done and I’m not even finished with the one exercise that I’ve been toiling on, I still have more boyfriend stuff to add and some dire consequences and angst. Hopefully next week will be speedier. And Angstier of course.
