Writing News
This week I finished my writing goal for October…maybe. I still might tweak it a little bit before November.
I have my six point outline, my fifteen point outline, and my chapter outline finished for this year’s NaNoWriMo project! At least I have put my fifteen point outline elements into the chapter outline and have a “goal”, “conflict”, and a “disaster” for every single one of my 34 chapters. I don’t have a character reaction for every chapter and I might change things around later to suit the story. I for sure want to do more research on giant prehistoric beavers (but who wouldn’t, even if they weren’t writing about them!), but I feel like I can take a breath and say that yes, I’m going to attempt NaNoWriMo this year. I have a plan, and that is what October is all about. Now, I’m not going to jump through the hoops at the official NaNoWriMo website, I like keeping track with the writing community in ACFW novel track. But I still feel that I’m part of this larger group of writers who are attempting to write those incredible, terrible, first, 50,000 words in a single month, together. Even attempting it would be impossible without my handy dandy chapter outline and so I feel pretty good. I think I’ll go back and revise last year’s NaNo project to raise the inner stakes for my protagonists, while I sit on this chapter outline and let it ruminate. After working on something else for a bit, I’ll have a better idea about whether I should change some stuff around or not, and of course I’ll know more about giant beavers! Which is always helpful. Did you know that they grew to the size of a modern black bear? How cool is that!
