This week I critiqued about 4 chapters of Jenn’s book and she critiqued a bunch of chapters from my novella manuscript, about 9 I think. I’m still waiting for her to send me more chapters to look over for her. So I revised the 9 chapters of the novella according to her critique. Then I went through the vampire book that I’d listened to on the way to the conference and made a document of all the passages that furthered the romance. I found 4 things that the hero consistently did to make you fall in love with him, although there were others as well. He was calm and funny in tense situations, the descriptions of his appearance were scattered through the story and pertained to what was happening in the plot, he took care of her and worried for her, he sacrificed for her. So then I went through my novella and tried to add some of these elements to help my romance along. I need to do it again. This is harder than it looks.
