Reading Tai-Bo

Reading Tai-Bo

What did I learn from my reading this week…

Oh so many things.

I finally got to read the conclusion to Ally Carter’s Gallagher Girls series United We Spy. And it was oh so good. The Hunky Hubby sent me off to the bagel shop for a reading day and I had a wonderful time immersing myself in the world of spooks and spies and hiking into underground prisons in Alaska and saving your friends from the bad guys. I learned that a strong story world and characters will hold onto you long after the book is closed. And I came to realize that guys really don’t get girl humor very well. I kept reading these hilarious quotes to the Hunky Hubby and he was just clueless. But when I read the same quotes to girl counselors or my mom or sister-in-law…they were laughing as hard as I was. Some books really are deeply entrenched into the mindset of one gender or the other. And whether a reader enjoys the book or not depends on how well they know and love the world of that gender. I imagine that a dad of 3 girls would have found these books as hilarious as I do. We have 3 boys…enough said. This book closes the series off nicely but still leaves just a bit of room for the reader to imagine what comes next for the characters. It leaves enough untold for the characters to feel like real people who are still living their adventures somewhere, just off screen. This book takes the darkness of the fifth book and rebuilds Cammy’s life. She is back. She is whole. And she is a better spy than ever!
