Reading Tai-Bo
This week I read Cream Puff Murder by Joanne Fluke and got most of the way through one of my all time favorites The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The Cream Puff Murder was especially fun because the victim was Ronnie the beautiful but vicious slave driver exercise instructor from the “Heavenly Bodies” gym and sauna. And when Hannah is locked into the sauna and almost killed…she loses 10 pounds of water weight and is able to fit into the regency dress that her mother bought for her to wear to her Mother’s book signing! Who knew that attempted murder could be so slimming. This book was fluff and fun, and sometimes that is exactly what you need.
I’m not quiet finished with The Lightning Thief but there are so many things to learn from this book. His characters are fierce and young and scared and delinquent and have trouble holding still in class. They fight monsters and don’t know how to talk to girls. They hate and love their dad’s, plunge to the realm of Hades for family, and can’t resist cheese enchiladas. They feel like real kids, even with godly powers and that I think, is the crux of why these books are so irresistible.
