God This Week

God This Week

So…what was God up to the week of Christmas?

Many many things I am sure, but what I noticed in particular was an unexpected blessing in the form of a gorgeous advent wreath.

One of my Christmas memories as a little girl is lighting the advent wreath together. I have always wanted to do this with my family. But never got around to it. This year I suddenly realized that my boys are 7, 9, and 11. They are not going to want to do this if we don’t do it now. So I looked up several wreaths and realized that they are very expensive.

But the Hunky Hubby came through and bought me one on the sly. It is so beautiful and has a wreath of carved wood and carved angels on the inside and Bible verses and is just simply gorgeous!

So then of course we forgot the first week because it was in November. But we just lit one candle on Christmas Eve and one on Christmas day and The Hunky Hubby found an advent devotional online to do and it was so wonderful…and rowdy. Have I ever mentioned how rowdy devotionals with three boys are. Sweet Boy#3 almost lit his hair on fire several times and they kept trying to stick their fingers in the flames, but they loved to sing the song at the end and even my oldest sang along, which was a Christmas miracle indeed.

So God provided a special way for our family to remember His sacrifice at Christmas time and even though it involved a lot of shushing and much wiggling and fighting between brothers, I am grateful. God is at work in our lives, even when we sit upside down during the Christmas devotional and are more concerned with who can hold his hand over the flame longest then with the verse from Isaiah that Dad is reading.

I promise you a crazed animal, a concussion, and a kiss in every single book...you're welcome!

  • Ah yes, this is about how devotionals go in our house too. 😉 My mom is the advent lady so we did it twice at her house this year.
