The Harrowing/Heartwarming Parent Moment of the Week
So last week during the whole kidney stone fiasco, it was incredibly heartwarming to watch my boys step up and take care of their Momma. They must be learning from The Hunky Hubby who without complaint took over every single thing that I normally do as well as continuing to do his job at the camp. I was down and out after surgery and consigned to a chair clutching my bottles of painkillers. He got the boys up at 6:00am, ready for school, to the bus, picked up from the bus (our bus stop is about a 10 to 15 minute drive away), fed, homeworked, played with, comforted, settled into bed, and reassured that yes Momma would recover and be back caring for them soon. The boys picked me flowers and brought me my heating pad in bed, they gave me hugs and told me they loved me and worried about me when I was at the Dr. for longer than they thought necessary. What a wonderful mother’s day gift in action.
Let’s see…I did glance out the window and see one boy on roller blades giving a piggy back ride to another boy who was also wearing roller blades but somehow not wearing his helmet.
I had been saving Princess Leia’s soft undercoat hair in case anyone who carded wool wanted it (you laugh, but people have asked me before) and Princess Leia found the bag of hair, tore it open, and scattered it all over the floor.
Princess Leia chewed on both of Sweet Boy#2’s roller blades making them impossible to latch without the use of duct tape. She also ran off with some legos and the war hammer that goes with Sweet Boy#2’s battle hamster.
I tossed a coat onto the bean bag couch. Sometime later, Princess Leia lept up barking fiercely. Slowly she stalked forward, obviously frightened of being suddenly attacked. She sniffed at the rogue coat, poked it with her nose, glanced at us sheepishly, gave a wag, and settled down for more napping. Coats, almost as scary as hay bales and the Sasquatch.
Earlier, before the kidney stone, I heard Sweet Boy#2 weeping in bed. I waited a moment as I had already attempted to comfort him for many minutes to no avail (he really needed to sleep). When I crept in to check on him once more I found his older brother in the bunk beside him with one arm slung over his brother’s shoulder, both boys were nearly asleep. I have no words for what this does to a mother’s heart, too much to take in.
