This week I polished and attempted to lengthen chapters 2, 3, and 4 of Daughter of the Decoy King. I also decided to foreshadow some of the events that occur later in the book by having characters show up and do weird things to confuse my protagonist. All in all this added 841 words to my story, finally bumping book #1 over the 50,000 word mark which puts it at the bare minimum length for a YA novel. It is so weird to go from having to cut cut cut thousands of words out of the story when it was one book, to now attempting to add thousands of words to turn it into two. And no, I can’t just add the words I cut out, the cuts made it such a better read that I’m going to have to add better stuff than what I came up with three years ago. At least I hope they will be better…
