God This Week
I am reading in Exodus this week. I’m past the exciting part about the plagues and “Let My People Go!” and the Red Sea parting and all of that. Now Moses is telling everyone about all the laws. There are a lot of laws. But I was reading in chapter 23 and a few of them stood out.
Exodus 23:2–“Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,”
Exodus 23:3–“and do not show favoritism to a poor man in his lawsuit.”
Exodus 23:6–“Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.”
Once again I am amazed by God. People think that the New Testament is all about God’s love and the Old Testament is all about God’s Law. But they forget that God’s Law also shows His love. No matter your status, rich or poor, God demanded justice for His people. And when Justice was not enough, He gave His son.
Thank you Lord for who you are. For showing your love in so many ways over the span of history and for loving even me.
