This reminds me of the time a garden hose was left laying against the house by some boy who apparently was playing with it while the irrigation water had been shut off. We came home that evening to a flooded basement! No one would fess up to even playing with the hose! They all had their stories and they were sticking to them! We gave up trying to pin it on anyone. DAYS later, Firstborn Son wondered why the basement carpet was spread all over the yard. I said, "Somebody left the hose by the side of the house and when the water came back on, it came into the house and got the carpet all wet, so now it's a big job to get it dry and put it back.". He thought for a moment, then said, "Well, Somebody promises not to do that again."
